Swordfish Deep Dropping Adventure – $2,500 Special
12 Hours aboard our 2018 Freeman 42LR

12 Hours. Deep Atlantic. One Unforgettable Adventure.

Climb aboard our 2018 Freeman 42LR, one of the most advanced offshore vessels in South Florida, and experience the thrill of daytime swordfishing in the deep Atlantic.

The Technique: Daytime Deep Dropping (1,400–1,800 Feet)

During daylight hours, swordfish descend into the dark depths of 1,400–1,800 feet, where they ambush squid, eels, and deep-water baitfish along the ocean floor. Their enormous, light-sensitive eyes allow them to hunt in near total darkness — and that’s exactly where we target them.

We use a precision deep-dropping system designed for this extreme environment:

    •    Lindgren-Pitman (LP) Variable Speed Electric Reels – Made in the USA and trusted worldwide.

    •    RJ Boyle custom rods paired with Stuart bent butts – Built for maximum power, durability, and comfort during long fights.

    •    65–80 lb braided line for sensitivity, paired with 150 ft of 250 lb wind-on leader to handle runs and abrasion.

    •    8–12 lb sinkers to keep baits locked on the bottom in strong Gulf Stream currents.

    •    500 lb stainless swivels for rock-solid connections.

    •    Custom fresh baits – belly strips of bonita or mahi-mahi, squid tentacles, or whole eels, carefully sewn and rigged on 11/0 or 12/0 Mustad 7291 hooks for maximum durability and presentation.

This combination of gear and preparation gives anglers the best chance of hooking and landing one of the ocean’s toughest predators.

Size, Power & Conservation

    •    Keeper Size: Swordfish must measure at least 47 inches from the lower jaw to the fork of the tail to be retained.

    •    Tag & Release: Fish under this size are carefully tagged and released to support ongoing research into swordfish migration and growth patterns.

    •    Size Range: Anglers regularly encounter swordfish over 100 lbs, with some of the largest fish in these waters reaching 500–1,000 lbs.

    •    Unmatched Table Fare: Swordfish are not only prized for the fight, but also for their excellent meat quality. Their firm, mild, steak-like fillets are considered among the finest for grilling or pan-searing.

– thrilling encounters with long-tailed predators

And while working the deep, we’re always ready to switch gears when schools of mahi-mahi pass by the boat. With light tackle on standby, you’ll have the chance to hook into these colorful acrobats for extra action and fresh fillets
